Make sure also you bridge some ETH to Arbitrum AETH, as you will need to pay for gas fees. We recommend at least 0.01 AETH as the initial balance.

At the moment you can choose between: 1. Fast bridges and direct fiat on-ramps for Arbitrum

In this case, you can ensure your AETH on one of those bridges/fiat on-ramps and send it directly to your wallet.

2. Arbitrum bridge

This tutorial assumes you have already downloaded a web3 wallet like MetaMask or Essentials, and that you have Ether (ETH) or other Ethereum based assets in your wallet on the Ethereum mainnet.

Visit Arbitrum bridge:

1. Add the Arbitrum One network

Click on the metamask extension > click on “Ethereum Mainnet” network > click on “Custom RPC” at the end of the menu, and enter the following:

  • Network Name: Arb1

  • Chain ID: 42161

  • Currency Symbol: ETH

—

2. Bridge your ETH/tokens (L1 → L2)

1. Login to the bridge with your wallet and make sure you are connected to the Ethereum mainnet network.

2. Select the token you want to bridge in the token drop-down menu.

3. Enter the amount of ETH/tokens you want to bridge over in the “L1” field and then press “deposit”. Follow the prompts on Metamask.

The bridging fee needs to be manually deducted from assets on Layer 1 that you want to bridge to Layer 2. e.g. If you have total of 0.08 ETH on L1, you need to input for bridging not more than 0.065 ETH (difference is estimated bridging fee).

After you submit the transaction through Metamask you can expect your funds to arrive on Arbitrum One within roughly 10 minutes to an hour (depending on congestion).

Also make sure your MetaMask wallet is set to the Arbitrum One network so you can see your funds when they arrive.

3. Withdraw your ETH / tokens (L2 -> L1)

THERE'S AT LEAST A 7 DAY WITHDRAWAL PERIOD. ONCE YOU SEND YOUR FUNDS THROUGH THE BRIDGE, YOU WILL HAVE TO WAIT AT LEAST 7 DAYS UNTIL YOU RECEIVE THEM ON MAINNET.

1. Click the arrow in the middle of page, then select the token you want to bridge in the token drop-down menu.

Make sure you are connected to the Arbitrum One network.

2. Enter the amount of ETH/tokens you want to bridge over in the “L2” field and then press “withdraw”. Follow the prompts on Metamask.

Please make sure you leave enough ETH to pay for the transaction, otherwise there will be no Metamask popup.

THERE’S AT LEAST A 7 DAY WITHDRAWAL PERIOD. ONCE YOU SEND YOUR FUNDS THROUGH THE BRIDGE, YOU WILL HAVE TO WAIT AT LEAST 7 DAYS UNTIL YOU RECEIVE THEM ON MAINNET.

3. You’ll see an unconfirmed transaction which will give you the count down for how long you have to wait until you can claim your funds.

Once the countdown is done, switch to the Ethereum mainnet network on your wallet and press the “claim” button within that transaction row to receive your funds on L1!

Potential Risks

Smart Contract Risk

There is always a chance that there may be a bug within any smart contract that could result in the loss of user funds.

Price Risk

Once your Ether or tokens are bridged over from L1 → L2 or L2 → L1, the value of your funds may change because regular market fluctuation.

If you’re a developer you can use or as an alternative way to connect to Arbitrum One.

To use Arbitrum One (L2), you need to first bridge your assets onto Arbitrum One from Ethereum mainnet. Visit our bridge .
